Working on this series was a great opportunity to put my new lean filmmaking skill set to work – taking Neighbours out into the streets of Melbourne to shoot a 20 part webseries for Instagram.
The crew was striped back to just 4 – director/shooter Ric Forster, sound recordist Graham Fettling, make up artist Leah Meurer and myself as coordinator/AD.
Shooting in the quirky fashion store Kinki Gerlinki in the morning, we sourced breakfast from local cafes, set up the very resourceful Leah to make up cast in the dressing rooms while Ric and Graham light the store.
After wrapping from the first location with the cast made up, we hit the streets filming in the iconic Degraves Street, along Southbank Promenade and on Southbank Pedestrian Bridge.
After grabbing lunch in the city, the cast and crew headed back to Global Studios to complete the day on the Neighbours backlots.
The City of Melbourne makes it really easy for low impact filming around the city which is perfect to shoots like this.
